Conference at the National Training School of the Carabinieri Forestali in Cittaducale: “Hydro-Strategy and Technological Innovations”

Filippo Verre - November 29, 2023

For the second consecutive year, on Tuesday 28 November 2023 AB AQUA participated in an event organized at Cittaducale, the official headquarters of the Carabinieri Forestry School.

The conference aimed to explore the central role of hydro-strategy in the global effort to combat climate change, with a specific emphasis on the critical importance of water resources. As climate change accelerates, the impact on water systems becomes more pronounced, affecting ecosystems, communities and economies around the world. A robust water strategy is an indispensable tool to address and mitigate these challenges.

Ab Aqua delved into the multiple dimensions of hydro-strategy, examining its importance in the context of water scarcity, drought and ecosystem conservation. Specifically, Dr. Carlo Corbinelli, Senior Research Fellow at AB AQUA, highlighted the interconnection between water management and climate resilience, underlining the need for adaptation measures to safeguard against extreme weather events, in light of the growing consumption of water resources in various areas of the world.

Subsequently, Dr. Filippo Verre explored the concept of hydro-strategy in international relations in light of some serious water crises that have already occurred in many massively urbanized areas. Specifically, the water crises of Cape Town (2018) and Chennai (2019) were mentioned – already the subject of previous studies – and the water rationale behind the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, especially on the southern front.

In addition, Dr. Verre proposed a series of solutions that could be taken at a national level to limit cases of water stress on Italian territory, as for example occurred in the summer of 2022, when scorching temperatures, together with scarce rainfall for many months, caused serious environmental damage from drought in many regions of the Belpaese.

Finally, some innovative techniques were presented from a hydro-environmental point of view, the result of technological efficiency achieved in many sectors.
