Progetto Erasmus+ - Water Wise: Advancing Water Sustainability in the Green Transition: A European Educational Initiative

December 3, 2024

AB AQUA won the European call for proposals Erasmus+ - WaterWise together with three other institutions. The project Advancing Water Sustainability in the Green Transition: A European Educational Initiative aims to address one of the most critical challenges of our time: the responsible and sustainable management of water resources in a context of ecological transition. This issue, crucial for ensuring water security, climate resilience and sustainable development, is central to the goals of the European Green Deal and global strategies to combat climate change.

Sustainable Desalination Plant Construction Project in Erdemli

November 6,  2024 Filippo Verre

The Turkish city of Erdemli, located in the Mersin province along the Mediterranean coast, exemplifies the challenges of managing water resources in regions characterized by a hot and arid climate. With an average annual rainfall of approximately 650 millimeters, mostly concentrated in the winter months, water availability is significantly limited, especially during the summer. During this period, high temperatures and prolonged droughts increase water demand, further exacerbated by a surge in population due to tourism. Erdemli, with a resident population of around 150,000 people, often sees its population exceed 200,000 during the tourist season, causing unsustainable pressure on local water resources. (...)

Artificial Intelligence at the Service of Water Efficiency. The Case of the Puglia Region

September 6, 2023, Filippo Verre

Water loss in water networks is a serious problem for many local administrations. According to Istat , in Italian aqueducts an average of 41.4 litres are lost for every 100 litres put into the distribution networks, or more than 40% . This is a truly impressive figure, which corresponds to the loss of approximately 145 litres per day per inhabitant . To understand the extent of the water losses that occur daily in our country, consider that according to some estimates, the total daily loss of water in the Italian water network could satisfy the needs of ten million people for over a year. The main reason for this worrying situation is due to the precarious state of the aqueducts , very often over a century old. Old systems lead to high rates of inefficiency in the water supply caused by holes, leaks, non-performing pipe joints and various malfunctions. All of this has a very negative impact on both the quality and (...)

The AB AQUA integrated irrigation module

July 20, 2023, Roberto Natali

It is easy to understand how the availability of fresh water in inhabited arid areas takes on a value of essentiality under various profiles. Certainly the precious liquid is an indispensable element for drinking and sanitary use, without which it is difficult to imagine a developed human settlement. But it also appears evident the extreme utility of being able to have water in terms of irrigating fields, both to guarantee adequate agricultural production for the food needs of the local community, and for the possibility of raising livestock which, through sale, can generate a significant income. Ultimately, it is a question of creating or expanding a green area around the settlement or village, creating, thanks to water, a fundamental prerequisite for a new and advanced model of life. In some communities in disadvantaged areas of the world, the need for clean water available with relative ease can really make a substantial difference, not only for the (...)

Project for the construction of a network of artesian wells in Benin

January 31, 2023, Filippo Verre

The constant growth of the global population in recent years - especially in sub-Saharan Africa - has made water supply a strategic issue for many nations that are dealing with complex demographic dynamics. Along with the progressive increase in their inhabitants, many countries are simultaneously experiencing cases of mass urbanization. This factor contributes to making water, a primary good par excellence, a resource to be safeguarded in terms of urban planning. From a water point of view, the presence of a (growing) multitude of people living in small portions of territory represents one of the most complex challenges that a state administration is called upon to solve. In fact, a double problem often occurs on both the (...)

Mersin Aqueduct Water Leakage Monitoring Project

December 6, 2023, Filippo Verre

In the city of Mersin , a major urban center on the southern coast of Turkey, water management is crucial to ensure sustainable development and the well-being of the population. In recent years, the increasing pressure on the city water network has highlighted significant problems related to water leakage along the aqueduct, causing waste of drinking water and putting at risk the availability of resources for citizens. In this context, AB AQUA played a leading role by participating in a consultancy project aimed at solving these problems. The project aimed to (...)
